Öz
Objective: Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia, are important health problems with an increasing prevalence in the world. In this study, it was aimed to examine the knowledge and attitudes of health sciences’ students toward Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia.
Material and Method: The sample of the study consists of 375 students studying at the active six departments of the Faculty of Health Sciences of a state university (mean age = 21.17 ± 3 years). Alzheimer’s Disease Knowledge Scale and Dementia Attitude Scale were used as online data collection tools in this study. The relationship between the scores obtained from both scales and the relationship of these scores according to demographic variables were examined.
Results: It was determined that the mean score obtained by the participants from the Alzheimer’s Disease Information Scale was 19.15±2.7. The level of knowledge of fourth and third-year students (X²=8,461; p=0,037) and students who took a lecture before on the subject (Z=- 2,681; p=0, 007) were significantly higher than those first-year students and did not take any lecture. It was observed that there was a weak but positive relationship, between the level of knowledge about Alzheimer’s Disease and attitudes (Spearman Correlation Analysis; r= 0.203; p<0.001).
Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it can be said that there is a need for course content that improves the knowledge and attitudes of health sciences, students, towards Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia. It is thought that it would be beneficial for students to receive an interdisciplinary education related to this topic.

Öz
Amaç: Alzheimer hastalığı ve demans, dünyada yaygınlık oranı gittikçe artan önemli bir sağlık sorunu olmaktadır. Bu araştırmada sağlık bilimleri öğrencilerinin Alzheimer Hastalığı ve demansa yönelik bilgi ve tutumlarının incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmanın örneklemini, bir devlet üniversitesinin Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi’nin aktif altı bölümünde öğrenim görmekte olan 375 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır (Ortalama yaş = 21,17 ± 3 yıl). Çevrimiçi olarak verilerin toplandığı bu çalışmada, Alzheimer Hastalığı Bilgi Ölçeği ve Demans Tutum Ölçeği veri toplama araçları olarak kullanılmıştır. Katılımcıların demografik özelliklerinin tanımlanabilmesi sayı, yüzde dağılımı ve AHBÖ’ye verdikleri yanıtlar için ortalama ve standart sapma değerleri hesaplanmıştır. Her iki ölçekten alınan puanlar arası ilişkiye bakılmış ve bu puanların demografik değişkenlere göre ilişkisi incelenmiştir.
Bulgular: Katılımcıların Alzheimer Hastalığı Bilgi Ölçeği’nden elde ettikleri puan ortalamalarının 19,15± 2,7 olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bu çalışmada, dördüncü ve üçüncü sınıf öğrencilerinin, birinci sınıf öğrencilerine (X²=8,461; p=0,037) ve konu ile ilgili daha önce ders alan öğrencilerin, almayanlara (Z=-2,681; p=0, 007) kıyasla bilgi düzeyleri anlamlı olarak daha fazla çıkmıştır. Konuya ilişkin bilgi düzeyi ile tutumlar arasında zayıf düzeyde pozitif bir ilişkinin olduğu görülmüştür (Spearman Korelasyon Analizi; r= 0,203; p<0,001).
Sonuç: Bu çalışmanın sonuçlarından yola çıkarak sağlık bilimleri öğrencilerinin Alzheimer Hastalığı ve demansa yönelik bilgi ve tutumlarını geliştirici ders içeriklerine ihtiyaç duyulduğu söylenebilir. Bu konuda öğrencilerin disiplinler arası bir eğitim almalarının faydalı olacağı düşünülmektedir.
