Abstract

Individual responses to traumatic events such as bereavement, natural disasters and marital dissolution vary. The concept of resilience is significicantly defined by an individual ability to respond and act decisively when confronted with these challenges. In this regard, psychological resilience theory emphasizes individuals’ capacity to reassess their actions and thoughts during challenging circumstances, which allows them to devise alternative strategies and Adapted from Yann Martel’s novel, Life of Pi and directed by director Ang Lee, this movie tells the tale of a young Indian boy’s struggle for survival stranded at sea with a Bengali tiger named Richard Parker. From the beginning to the end of the journey, Pi’s ongoing struggle against Richard Parker and his fear of potential attacks from the tiger serve as important elements in maintaining his vigilance and ultimately surviving. His capacity to endure the challenges posed by nature and Bengali tiger along with his self regulation abilities, his hope and courage he maintained until his final moments demonstrate his remarkable psychological resilience. The aim of this research is to examine the correlation between Pi’s characteristics and his ability to maintain resilience. This paper will analyze the survival methods employed by Pi, taking into consideration the theoretical framework of psychological resilience
