Examination of New Media Departments of Universities in terms of Technological Formation in the Context of Industry 4.0

Abstract

Fifty years ago, education was limited to curricula and schools, whereas today it is expected to be a lifelong subject with lifelong learning. During the 1st industrial revolution, education was planned according to the average of the class, whereas today it is planned to provide personalized and special education for each student. With the change in the way of doing business and Industry 4.0, "knowing" is no longer enough, but "applying" comes to the fore. Therefore, it has become necessary to prepare a curriculum suitable for today's ways of doing business in both primary and secondary education and also university education. In the future, the media industry will employ individuals who not only know but also can apply in connection with industry 4.0. This study aims to examine the curricula of new media departments in various faculties of universities in Türkiye in terms of technological formation and to investigate the courses in the curriculum in terms of theoretical and practical amenities and services. While journalism and radio, television and cinema departments within the faculties of communication have been providing education for years, the new media department is a department that is not as old as the others and is expected to have more applied courses. The new media department was chosen for this reason. In the article, firstly, a breakdown of new media or new media and communication departments in various faculties of universities in Turkey was made and the sampling was carried out by taking a sample from 7 different provinces. According to the research results: There is an imbalance in favor of foundation universities in the context of state and foundation universities. Workshop, laboratory and studio facilities where applied courses are held vary greatly between universities.
